Advanced Potent Compound series
This five-part series of live instructor-led, web-based modules is intended for environmental, health and safety professionals in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Upon completion of the 5 modules, each participant will be able to:
- Describe the basic definition of a "potent compound."
- Describe at least 3 examples where occupational exposure to active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) has caused unintended adverse health effects to employees.
- Describe the basic elements of a potent compound safety program.
- Understand basic and advance toxicology as it relates to exposure to APIs.
- Be able to perform basic risk assessments for APIs.
- Understand basic industrial hygiene monitoring strategies as they relate to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry; and
- Describe various engineering, administrative, and PPE controls used within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
The Advanced Potent Compound series qualifies for Certification Maintenance points for Certified Industrial Hygienists. Completion of all 5 modules will award 1.5 CM points.
2-hours weekly or 2-day marathon
The five-part series is offered in two configurations: one 2-hour session each week for 5 weeks, or a pair of intensive 5-hour sessions over 2 days.
Cost for each module is $279 USD; each 2-hour module may be registered for individually.
Cost for the 2-day entire series is $1195.
Module 1: Intro to Potent Compound Safety
Intro to Potent Compound Safety is designed to provide the participants with a basic understanding of the key definitions, and terminology used in the remaining modules. In addition, this module provides an overview of the design elements for an effective potent compound safety program and numerous case studies where occupational exposures to active pharmaceutical ingredients have occurred. Participants will be involved in their learning experience through interactive, instructional exercises. Combined with technical information, these activities provide opportunities to apply newly learned concepts to a variety of industry relevant scenarios.
